Conference Series

The International Conference on Adaptive Modeling and Simulation is now in its twelfth edition, firmly establishing itself as an international benchmark. Over the years, it has been hosted in prominent venues across various countries: in 2003 and 2007 in Gothenburg, Sweden; in 2005 in Barcelona, Spain; in 2009 in Brussels, Belgium; in 2011 in Paris, France; in 2013 in Lisbon, Portugal; and once again in Paris, France, in 2015.

The International Conference on Computational Plasticity  series started in Barcelona, Spain, in 1987, and took place in this city ever since:
in 1989, 1992, 1995, 1997, 2000 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015. These meetings have become established events in the field of computational plasticity.

The International Conference on Computational Methods for Coupled Problems in Science and Engineering series rotates between different Mediterranean islands of Greece, Italy and Spain.

The previous six editions of this conference were held on the islands of Santorini (Greece) on 25 – 28 May 2005, Ibiza (Spain) on 21 – 23 May 2007, Ischia (Italy) on 8 – 11 June 2009, Kos (Greece) on 20 – 22 June 2011, Ibiza (Spain) on June 17 – 19 June 2013 and on San Servolo, Venice (Italy) con 18 – 20 May 2015.

The International Conference on Computational Methods in Marine Engineering has now reached its eleventh edition. Previous conferences were held in Oslo, Norway (2005); Barcelona, Spain (2007); Trondheim, Norway (2009); Lisbon, Portugal (2011); Hamburg, Germany (2013); and Rome, Italy (2015).

Structural Membranes Conference is the 12th in the series of International Conferences, organized since 2003 on Textile Composites and Inflatable Structures.

The previous conferences of these series were held in Barcelona (2003, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019, in conjunction with the conference commemorating the 60th anniversary of the International Association for Shell and Space Structures (IASS)), Stuttgart (2005, 2009) and Munich (2013, 2017), online on September 13-14, 2021 and Valencia, Spain on 2-4 October 2023.

The International Conference on Particle-Based Methods is in its ninth edition, which will be held from October 20 to 22, 2025, in Barcelona, Spain, continuing a series of events since 2009 in various European cities.

Its objective is to discuss principles, trends, and advances in particle methods such as MPM, SPH, MPS, PFEM, LBM, DEM, and MD for applications in engineering and science. This conference is a thematic event of ECCOMAS and a special interest conference for IACM, highlighting its importance in computational mechanics.

The Spanish Society for Numerical Methods in Engineering was founded in 1989 with the aim of bringing together university researchers, professionals, companies, and institutions interested in the development and practical applications of numerical methods.

SEMNI organizes courses, technical workshops, and conferences on Numerical Methods in Engineering, initially held every three years in Spain, and since 2002, every two years alternating with Portugal. Notably, it hosted the World Congress on Computational Mechanics in 2014 alongside ECCOMAS.

LANDMARK CONFERENCES

A brief reference to conferences that were a landmark in the history of CIMNE Congress Bureau:

𝟒𝘁𝗵 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗰𝘀 – 𝗪𝗖𝗖𝗠 𝗜𝗩
(June 29 – July 2, Buenos Aires, Argentina)

Each new event is a challenge, but nothing compares with the responsibility of organizing a world congress, especially if abroad.

This congress attracted some 1300 people of all over the world.

11 – 14 September 2000, Barcelona, Spain

The first two ECCOMAS Congresses had been held in Brussels (1992) and Paris (1996).

The growing importance of the research and applications of computational methods was demonstrated by the fact that the number of papers presented increased from some 500 papers in Brussels to over 1058 papers in Barcelona. The congress hosted over 1100 participants.

July 21-26, 2002, Barcelona, Spain

IFAC b02, in the summer of 2002, was a real challenge. The answer to the call for abstracts was overwhelming (over 3000 submissions). In the end about 2200 presentations where scheduled, and a large exhibition was run in parallel, all of it in the premises of the Campus Nord of the Technical University of Catalonia.

April 18 – 22, Barcelona, Spain

ICRA 2005, in the Palau de Congressos de Barcelona, hosted over 1500 attendees.

We closed the Conference with a huge “paella”, in the “Cervantes” park right in front of the Conference venue.

23 – 27 July 2007, Barcelona, Spain

The theme of the symposium -“Sensing and Understanding our Planet”- suggested what remote sensing scientific activity should ultimately achieve: Information gathered by all sensors and techniques must be wisely used mainly to understand our Earth and to improve prediction of natural disasters or global climate change, and provide tools to prevent their consequences.

Hosted at the Barcelona International Convention Center (CCIB), it attracted some 1600 participants coming from 59 countries.

8th World Congress on Computational Mechanics – WCCM8 in conjunction with the 5thEuropean Congress con Computational Methods in Applied Sciences and Engineering – ECCOMAS 2008
30 June – 4 July 2008, Lido Island, Venice,Italy

For the first time, both the International Association for Computational Mechanics (IACM) and the European Community on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences (ECCOMAS) organized their congress in conjunction.

Over 3000 people attended the largest congress these Associations had ever organized.

IACM and ECCOMAS Joint Organization of 11th World Congress on Computational Mechanics (WCCM XI)
5th European Conference on Computational Mechanics (ECCM V)
6th European Conference on Computational Fluid Dynamics (ECFD VI)
20-25 July 2014, Barcelona, Spain

The congress was hosted at the Congress Complex constituted by the Hotel Rey Juan Carlos and the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya. Sixty three countries were represented by over 3600 participants. The scientific program scheduled 3152 presentations, in 543 technical sessions (48 parallel rooms).

This is, so far, the largest congress in the Computational Methods community history.
